At Holistic Hub-we have a question we’d like to ask!
How do you imagine a yogi? A svelt blonde gymnast who could be the next Victoria Secret angel? Yoga has been gobbled up by the fitness industry and spat out as a route to a hot bod!
There is so more to a yoga than the splits and headstands. These visual delights are exciting but those in pursuit of such gymnastic feats are missing out on the point of yoga – that is to ‘open your body and clear your mind’. Yogis come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
Pictured yogi Jessamyn Stanley takes “a body positive approach to yoga which celebrates students’ bodies and encourages them to ask ‘How do I feel?’ rather than ‘How do I look?’ when practicing yoga.”
Importantly, yoga is for all. The benefits of yoga can enhance the lives of many people who aren’t “clean cut, white folks who have more money than they know what to do with”(as put by Chris Grosso).
Go put on some gorgeous tights that make you happy and do yoga! The holistic benefits of yoga are for everyone.
There are organisations fighting for the diverse yogi’s cause. The Yoga and Body Image Coalition ‘is committed to body love by developing, promoting and supporting yoga that is accessible, body positive and reflects the full range of human diversity.’ Visit them at http://ybicoalition.com/
